Richard Glenn Adcox left his earthly body on Monday, May 13, 2024 at the age of 71. He passed peacefully at his home in Sandy Hook, MS surrounded by family. He bravely faced pancreatic cancer and fought it until his last breath. Despite the pain and grim prognosis, his faith in his eternal home was unshakable.
Richard met his soulmate and love of his life, Rhonda Jean Stringer, whom he would soon marry in 1972. They loved to travel, often leaving the house with no firm plans other than where the turns in the road took them.
Richard worked with cranes for more than 50 years. He helped put up and take down cranes on some of the largest skyscrapers in the world. After working offshore as a crane operator, he operated his own crane rental business. He had a passion for fast muscle cars, slow cruising Harleys, and listening to Oldies in his workshop. His grandchildren were the biggest joys of his life, letting them do the “scary things” their mom wouldn’t. In November 2019, Richard accepted Christ. His passion became witnessing, sharing his testimony, and serving God at Hurricane Creek Baptist Church.
Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Uhl O’Quinn Adcox; and his father, William Adcox. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rhonda Stringer Adcox of Sandy Hook; his son, Jeremy Chip Adcox (Allison Luree) of Brandon, MS; grandchildren, Kaplan Jay Adcox, and Georgia Luree Adcox; sisters, Ann Pinkerton, and Semmie Jayne Boring; and a brother, William “Little Bill” Adcox.
Visitation will be held at Hurricane Creek Baptist Church from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Thursday, May 16, 2024. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Friday, May 17, 2024 at the church where friends may visit one hour prior to service. Reverend Zach Smith and Reverend Glenn Nace will officiate and burial will follow at Hurricane Creek Cemetery assisted by Kaplan Jay Adcox, Wendell Sullivan, Shannon Stringer, Chris Turnage, Greg Prine, and Mike Hobgood as pallbearers, and honorary pallbearers, Dale Fontenot, Myron Miller, Chris O’Quinn, and Derrick Jerkins.
