
COLUMBIA – Mr. Alan T. Hatch, 77, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2015. A 2:00 p.m. memorial service will be held Friday, April 10, 2015 at Ashland United Methodist Church, 2600 Ashland Rd., Columbia, SC 29210. The Rev. Mike Bruce and the Rev. Dr. James Nates will officiate. The family will greet friends in Ashland Hall at the church after the service. Elmwood Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 501 Elmwood Ave., Columbia, SC 29201 will be assisting the family.
Alan was born to the late Willard and Frances Hatch, Dec. 4, 1937 in Waltham, MA. He earned his BA degree in Analytical Chemistry from Clark Univ., Worcester, MA in 1960. He married his beloved wife of 53 years, Jacqueline Timbury Hatch, in 1961. They resided in Mogadore, OH before relocating to their Columbia home in 1972. He was active in the Mogadore Lions Club, the Akron, OH, Toastmaster’s International Club, and in Columbia the American Society of Quality, Windward Point Yacht Club, Palmetto Model A Ford Club and a docent at the SC State Museum. He was employed and retired from Anchor Continental in Columbia and later from Webb Forging Co. in Carlisle, SC.
Surviving are his four children: Karen Nates (Jeff) of Columbia; Roger Hatch of Columbia; Laura Dill (J.R.) of Rock Hill and Craig Hatch (Janet) of Columbia. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Stuart and Hannah Nates; Connor and Hart Dill; Brook McCraw (Byron) and Brian Hatch and two great grandchildren: Tanner and Aniston McCraw.
In lieu of flowers, Alan has asked that any remembrances be made to either the Ashland UMC Memorial Fund or to the SC State Museum Foundation. A special thank you is given to Laura, Jackie, Rob, Tawanda, Angie and Darcy from Amedisys Hospice for their very special care.
