

Bertie Ardis Doverspike, wife of 57 years of John R. (Jack) Doverspike went to be with her Lord in the early morning of Wednesday, April 28, 2010. She was born on January 10, 1922 in Clarendon County; Mrs. Doverspike was the daughter of the late John Wesley and Clara Hodge Ardis of Foreston and Sumter, SC. She was predeceased by her first husband, Larry L. Ardis, Sr. of Sumter, SC.
Surviving in addition to her husband, Jack are two daughters, Barbara Ardis Coker (Clyde) of Sumter, SC and Laura Ardis Rollinson (John) of Camden, SC; she is survived by her grandchildren, Alissa P. Best (Lary and their children, Kayla and Connor) of Chesapeake, VA; Laurie W. Trotter and her son, Andrew of Lexington,SC; Russell A. Watson and his daughter, Lauren of Chapin, SC; John P. Post (Kimberly and their son, Jonathan) of Gaston, SC; sisters-in-law, Betty R. Doverspike of Pennsylvania and Carol B. Doverspike of Camden, SC; and nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Doverspike was predeceased by a brother, Ruthan E. Ardis of Sumter, SC, a sister, Ethel H. Atkinson of Manning, SC, two infant brothers, Wesley Otto and John Albert Ardis of Foreston; and a step-son, Larry L. Ardis, Jr. of Sumter, SC.
She retired as Vice President of Rosewood East Furniture and was a faithful member of North Trenholm Baptist Church for more than 50 years, where she served for 40 years as a Sunday school teacher in the children's department.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 30, 2010 at North Trenholm Baptist Church, 6551 North Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC 29206, conducted by Pastors Paul Ballard and Joe Copeland. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park Serenity Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1:30 p.m. until the hour of the service on Friday. The Doverspike family wishes to extend its deepest gratitude to the hospice nursing staff and to Life Care of Columbia for the gentle and loving way in which care was provided to a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Also, a special thanks is extended to many dear friends who visited and assisted during the final months of her life.
