Columbia - A memorial service for Betty H. Smith, 93, will be held 3:00 PM, Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Forest Lake Presbyterian Church. Interment will be at Beaufort National Cemetery at a later date. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Forest Lake Presbyterian Church organ fund or the American Heart Association. Dunbar Funeral Home Northeast Chapel is assisting the family. Betty passed away quietly on Sunday, May 10, 2015. Born in St. Paul, Minnesota September 1, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Clara Hunt and a loving wife of 58 years to the late Colonel Herbert A. Smith, USAF. She was active in church and community affairs for many years; but the loving center of her life was family. Betty is survived by her children: Richard Smith, Carolyn Maffett (Tom), and Peggy Lewis; grandchildren: Donovan, Dana, Chris, Emily, Alison, Dani, and Amanda; and 14 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers Richard and Glen Hunt and sister Dorothy H. Meyer.
