
Blythewood—Carl Joseph “Joe” Taylor, 84, passed away Thursday,
November 19, 2015. The son of Lucy Belle Marthers and Willie Eli Taylor, Joe was born on October 8, 1931 in Blythewood, SC. After graduating Blythewood High School, Joe enrolled at The University of South Carolina and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1954, continuing with his Master’s Degree Program through 1958. During this period Joe also served in the United States Navy in Naval Intelligence, under the National Security Agency.
Joe was a successful businessman throughout the arc of his life, founding Taylor-Marchant Construction Company in 1969, and developed numerous projects in and around South Carolina.
He was also active in politics; local, state and national. He was voted a member of the first Richland County Board of Administrators (now County Council) in1964, attended the 1972 Republican National Convention as a member of The South Carolina Delegation, and was appointed by Richard Nixon to the Central American Regional Board of The Organization of American States.
He is survived by his children, Joe Taylor (Stacey), Steve Taylor (Betsy), and Laura Taylor Callahan (Chuck).
The family has elected to have a private memorial. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sandy
Level Baptist Church Building Fund PO Box 518, Blythewood, SC 29016.
