

COLUMBIA - Carol (Grammy) Cole Kennedy, 74, born in Galveston, Texas went to be with The Lord on October 15, 2013. She is now free of all her earthly ailments and is no longer suffering. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 18, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 a.m. at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel.
Carol was born, September 28, 1939 to Lt. George Cole Sr. and Frances Thiem Cole. She attended Columbia College and graduated from Furman University in 1962 with a degree in Chemistry. Carol married the love of her life, her beloved boyfriend, Bill Kennedy and birthed 3 beautiful daughters. She spent a lifetime raising her children and grandchildren. In addition to being an amazing mother and grandmother, she was a successful Real Estate Agent in Columbia until her health no longer allowed her to continue. She served at Union United Methodist Church as a 3rd grade Sunday School Teacher for over 20 years and was a member of the Junior Women's Club of Columbia and St. Andrews Woman Club where she served as Central District President. She loved playing bridge with her girl friends, bowling, and swimming. In 2000 she won 2 gold medals in swimming at the US Transplant Olympic Games. Carol is best known for always having a good time and throwing "themed" family parties.
Surviving are her husband of 53 years, William (Bill) A. Kennedy; daughters, Kathryn Robinson (Randall), Kristin Fields (Bert)and Kelly Moore (Keith); grandchildren, Lauren Lyons, Ashley Lyons, Chandler Frick, Hunter Fields, Sarah Cole Fields and Brayden Moore. Also surviving are her brothers, George Cole Jr., James Cole, Joe Cole; sister and best friend Cordelia (Corky) Dyer, and her cousin and kidney donor, Evelyn Frankovich.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Dream Riders of Lexington, the PKD Foundation or Union United Methodist Church.
The family wishes to thank all of the hard working doctors, nurses, other medical staff, and administration at Lexington Medical Center with special thanks to Dr. William Moore, Dr. Gwen Galphin, Dr. Jeff Libbey, and Dr. Virgil Kenneda who fought so hard to give us so many years with our Granny.
