

COLUMBIA – Catherine Randolph Gibbs Dixon of Columbia, beloved wife of LTC Benjamin “Ben” Dotterer Dixon, USAR died Friday, June 17, 2011.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Riverland Hills Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Ed Carney and Dr. Tim Phillips officiating. Burial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery following the funeral service. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 20, 2011 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, South Carolina 29212 and after the service at their residence, 424 Pittsdowne Road, Columbia, South Carolina 29210. Pall bearers will be Benjamin Dixon, Jr., Caleb Dixon, Philip Dixon, Trip Noll, F. Reeves Gressette III, and A. J. Gressette.
Catherine was born in Lexington, Kentucky on August 24, 1965. She is the daughter of Ann Gressette Noll (Trip) and the late John Ernest Gibbs III; and stepfather Benjamin Robert “Bob” Crosby. She is the maternal granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Furman Reeves Gressette (Ila Mae) and paternal granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Ernest Gibbs, Jr. (Dorothy Dame).
Catherine attended Bishop England High School and graduated from Ashley Hall School, Charleston, South Carolina in 1983. She graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1987. After graduation from USC, Catherine was employed by Windwood Farm, Home for Boys in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina until her spousal travels as a military wife began. Because she enjoyed planning educational activities with her three children, Catherine chose to home school for eight years. She was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed traveling to cross country track meets, tennis matches, and swim meets. For the past three years, she has worked as Office Manager for South Carolina Swimming. Her favorite time was warm summer days that included vacation trips to Edisto Beach.
Survivors are her husband of over nineteen years, LTC Benjamin “Ben” Dotterer Dixon, USAR; her sons, Benjamin Dotterer Dixon, Jr., Caleb Thomas Dixon; her daughter, Laura Ann Dixon all of Columbia, SC; her brother, John Gressette Gibbs; her loving in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Gadsden Dixon (Laura); sisters-in-law, Capt. Anne Ransome Dixon, USAF, and Katherine Walpole Monroe (Bucky); brother-in-law, Philip Gadsden Dixon (Miranda); three nieces, two nephews, and beloved cousin Barbara Gressette Adams (Jesse).
