Darlene Minnie Gaebel

COLUMBIA – Darlene M. Gaebel, 76, of Columbia passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2014. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2014, at 12:00 noon at St John Neumann Catholic Church. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Dunbar Funeral Home Northeast Chapel. A vigil prayer service will be held at 7:30 pm. Entombment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Freeport, MN at a later date. Born in Elrosa, MN, she was a daughter of the late Chrys and Alma Scholz Stalberger. Darlene was a member of St John Neumann Catholic Church, actively volunteered in the Crisis Ministry, helped with feeding the homeless, and volunteered at Providence Northeast Hospital. Most of all she loved spending time with family and her beloved husband, James “Jim” Gaebel whom she married on May 19, 1973 at St. Thomas Aquinas in Dallas, TX. In addition to her husband of 41 years, she is survived by her daughter, Dr. Allison Marks of Sunnyvale, CA, grandchildren, Jordan and Eric, brother, Dennis Stalberger and wife Gerry of Minneapolis, MN, sisters, Donna Kennedy of Columbia, Lois Swanson and husband Neil of Minneapolis, MN, Jan Hanson and husband Kenneth of Jordan, MN and Arlene Allen and husband Donald of Blythewood. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Ronnie Stalberger and his wife Irene. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Crisis Center at St John Neumann Catholic Church, 100 Polo Road, Columbia, SC 29223 or a charity of one’s choice.
