A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Living Springs Lutheran Church, 4224 Hard Scrabble Rd. Columbia at 7:00 with a reception following. Her first job was at the Federal Reserve in New York City where she burned old money. Something she never forgot. She went on to work at Mitchel Air Force Base on Long Island at the PX. She enjoyed welcoming soldiers home during World War II and this is where she met her late husband, James. They were married for 58 years. Big Band music was a big part of Dorothy’s life. Before marrying James, she was a big Frank Sinatra fan including seeing him at the Paramount in N.Y. James was active in marching bands and many of their lifelong friendships revolved around those activities. Once she had children her main interest was being a Mom. One of her passions in life was baking muffins, cakes and cookies. She did this for her friends, neighbors, and family, including her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was admired for her blue ribbon winning blueberry muffins. She would bring her baked goods to her many jobs over the years including 13 years at K-Mart, her last job before she retired. Her other interests included sewing, knitting and crocheting to make things for her friends and family. “Nana” was a humble Christian woman with faith in God, who has a plan for all of us. Prayer was her first response to any problem in life. Mrs. Kelly (“Miss Dorothy”) is survived by her daughter Peggy, sons Steve and Brian; her grandchildren, Deborah, James, Josh, Christopher, Stephen Jr., Erin Anne, and Brian Sean; great grandchildren True, Asher and Penny Grace; and her sister Eileen. In addition to her husband and parents she is predeceased by her sister Lois. Please sign the online guestbook at www.dunbarfunerals.com.
