
LEXINGTON- Elizabeth “Betty” Harrell Putnam died Friday, January 17, 2014. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 19 from 3-5 p.m. at Caughman Harman Funeral Home, Bush River Road. Funeral service will be held at St. Andrews Baptist Church, 230 Bush River Rd. at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 20, followed by a private family interment.
Mrs. Putnam was born in Florence, S.C. to the late Elbert Stanley and Ella Jacobs Harrell. She attended Florence schools and graduated from Winthrop College in 1950, where she was editor of the newspaper and listed in Who's Who of American Colleges. She was an active member and long-time Sunday School teacher at St. Andrews Baptist Church and a devoted member of the Mary Martha Sunday school Class.
Mrs. Putnam is survived by her husband of 62 years, William T. Putnam of Columbia; daughter, Susan (Mark) Wilson of Murfreesboro, TN; sister, Marjorie H. Riddle of Burlington, NC; daughter-in-law, Jacqueline M. Putnam of Columbia; grandchildren, Laura (Lt. Col. Barton) Kenerson of Eielson AFB, AL, Ashlee Putnam of Murfreesboro,, TN, William M. (Lisa) Putnam of Blythewood, Christopher T. Putnam of Columbia, Dr. M. Andrew (Heidi) Wilson of College Station, TX, and Amanda (Anthony) Babbitt of South Jordan, UT, and niece, Jody R. Wade of Greensboro, NC. She is also survived by Rebecca B. Putnam of Columbia, and 13 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, William T. (Tommy) Putnam, Jr.
The family extends a sincere thank you to Dr. Bradley Word for the diligent care he gave to and the humor he shared with Mrs. Putnam.
