A visitation for Gloria “Yogi” Rita Garcia Latham, 58, will be held on Tuesday, March 23rd from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 24th at 12:30 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel, followed by a burial service in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The Reverend Dr. Philip Blankenship will officiate the ceremonies. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Yogi's life.

Yogi found peace on March 18, 2021 while surrounded by close family. She is survived by her beloved husband and best friend, James Stevenson Latham; children, Jeremy Charles Dickerson (Hilary) of Columbia, Jessica Marie Fuller (Bryant) of Marietta, GA, and Hannah Jade Raddin (Tommy) of Blythewood; as well as stepfather, Matheus Joseph Nieuwenhuizen; three sisters, Eva Maria Whaley, Carmen Garcia (Page), and DiDi Garcia Younginer (Marc); multiple nieces and nephews; and four grandchildren, Margo Mae, Joey Charles, Sumner Bryant and Chandler Pace; and many other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her father, Jeronimo Garcia-Soto who was killed in Vietnam and her mother, Doris Moessner Nieuwenhuizen.

Yogi loved her family more than anything. She loved crocheting, crafts and DIY projects. She was so full of life. She had a very unique sense of humor and an infectious laugh. She also cared deeply for her work family having been employed by Palmetto Health for over 25 years.

She also had a special place in her heart for animals. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Blythewood Animal Hospital at 10332 Wilson Blvd, Blythewood, SC 29016 or Paralyzed Veterans of America. The family would like to thank Praying Hands Home Care and Heart of Hospice, especially Cody, Tonya and Beth for their loving care.

When Yogi and I worked at Richland Memorial Hospital we would smile as we passed in the hall, commenting on how we short women need to stick together! Later we found out we had another common bond. Our oldest children, Jason and Jeremy, were close friends and later brothers-in-law to amazing twins! Her loving spirit and beautiful smile will be cherished by all who knew her. My love and sympathy to her sweet family. Joanie

This so hurts my heart. You were truly one of my heart people in this life, Yogi. I cherish the one on one time we worked together in professional recruitment. Your presence was truly the bonus in my daily job role. Your smile and laugh; infectious and warm. I loved working with a professional that also knew how to throw in sprinkles of mischievous moments to lighten and brighten my day. May you always know, that on Earth, you were a class act and may you also know you've left a tremendous void. My deepest thoughts to the family that are assuredly dealing with the loss of Yogi and her too early departure.

Dearest Yogi,
I’m so sorry you’re gone from your earthly life, but happy that you are in the arms of Jesus with your mother and father.

I loved working with you so much.

Yogi and I worked together for almost 7 years at Palmetto Health. We immediately became close friends, a relationship I always have treasured given how private of a person I came to appreciate Yogi to be. She adored her children, found joy in her sisters, loved her husband, and relished her Infiniti :-). I so overwhelmingly appreciate the counsel, wisdom, trust and friendship she shared with me, and am a better person for having known Yogi.
