

COLUMBIA - Memorial service for Harry Alger Pleming Jr., 89, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at Northeast Presbyterian Church, with visitation in the church atrium prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be private. Dunbar Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel, is assisting the family. Mr. Pleming died Saturday, August 2, 2014. Born in Forsyth County, N.C., he was a son of the late Harry Alger Pleming Sr. and Bess Linville Pleming. He graduated from the University of S.C. and retired as a mechanical engineer with Dupont after 33 years of service. A World War II veteran with the U.S. Army Air Corps, he was a member of Northeast Presbyterian Church and played in the church orchestra. He was a volunteer for the Richland County Library. An avid musician, he played in jazz bands and orchestras all his life, beginning at age 12 and up until 3 weeks before his death. Surviving are three sons, Harry A. “Buzz” Pleming III (Suzanne) of Columbia, Thomas L. Pleming of West Columbia, Richard L. Pleming (Karen) of Wichita, Kan.; six grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn Watts Pleming.
