Jackie was born May 6, 1937, in Johnson City, Tennessee to the late Everett and Anna Mae (Feathers) Maupin. She graduated in 1955 from Ketron High School in Kingsport, Tn., and went on to attend East Tennessee State University, where she majored in Business and English Literature.
Jackie was a kind-hearted spirit with a heart of gold. She loved nothing more than gathering and spending time with family and friends She was a gracious host, never turning away company, and always making sure there was a seat open at her legendary "round table."
A woman of many talents, Jackie was a wonderful cook who never followed a recipe or bothered with a measuring cup. She was a voracious reader and lifetime lover of literature who could burn through a good book in a matter of hours. She had magnificent penmanship, writing calligraphy announcements for family and friends as a hobby. She was an avid traveler who enjoyed vacationing at the beach with family. In her younger years, she especially loved a festive cruise with her closest friends.
Jackie was a wise soul with keen intuition and never wrong on first impressions. She was patient and selfless, always lending a supportive ear and words of encouragement to those in need. She was compassionate and humble, very seldom, if ever, raising her voice in anger or frustration.
She loved reminiscing and sharing her life's stories with family and friends over cocktails. She was quick-witted with a wonderful sense of humor. Those who knew her best would describe her as a generous and gentle soul. She was a loving daughter, mother, sister, friend and grandmother. The world was a better place with her in it, and she will be forever missed.
She is survived by her sisters, Janice Triplett of Greensboro, NC and Charlotte Milhorn of Johnson City, Tenn, and by her four children, Mark Kirkpatrick of Atlanta, Ga, Tina Evans of Columbia, SC, Scott Kirkpatrick (Michelle) of Hilton Head Island, SC, and Paige Mensing (John) of Camden, SC. She was also very proud of her nine grandchildren, Geoffrey Kirkpatrick, Ashley Kirkpatrick Schilling, Erin Kirkpatrick, Madison Evans, Savannah Rodgers, Tyler Kirkpatrick, Lakin Mensing, Hayes Mensing, Everett Kirkpatrick, and her two great-grandchildren, Liam and Scarlett Schilling. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and US Army Veteran, (CW4) Jack Kirkpatrick of Waynesville, NC., siblings, Marilyn Guinn of Johnson City, Tn., June Johnson of New London, NC, and Michael Maupin of Johnson City, Tn.
A private service and celebration of life will be held for immediate family on Friday, September 3, 2021. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Carolina Sunshine for Children or the Wounded Warrior Project.
