Janice Pooser

IRMO - Funeral services for Janice Reese Pooser, 80, will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at Union United Methodist Church, 7582 Woodrow Street, Irmo, SC 29063, with interment at Bush River Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Timothy Hawkins will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 1, 2012, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel.

Mrs. Pooser was born in Columbia, South Carolina, December 19, 1931, and passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2012. She was the daughter of the late Samuel Norwood Reese and Mary Fudge Reese. Mrs. Pooser was a member of Union United Methodist Church for over 46 years. She graduated from Dreher High School in 1950 and attended the University of South Carolina in Columbia. Mrs. Pooser later went to work at the Federal Land Bank in Columbia where she met her beloved husband, Leroy Pooser. They were happily married in 1954, and over the next several years, they became the loving parents of three daughters. Mrs. Pooser loved being a homemaker - cooking and sewing and taking care of her children. For many years, she and her husband were devoted supporters of their children’s various interests and activities. Mrs. Pooser particularly enjoyed her work as both an Irmo High School Band Booster and a Choral Booster parent volunteer. For many years, she and her husband chaperoned various band and choral events, performances, and trips. She was an avid and loyal Gamecock fan who loved going to USC football and basketball games for over thirty years.

Mrs. Pooser is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Mark Leroy Pooser; her three daughters; Gayle P. Kotti (Doug), Sandra P. Vann (Joey), and Jane P. Melven (Chad); her nine grandchildren; Laura Kotti, Burt Kotti, Rachel Kotti Meeusen (Andy), Meredith Melven, William Melven, Reese Melven, Lauren Vann Brown (Chris), Robbie Vann, and Elizabeth Vann; and one great-grand child, Ashlynn Brown. She is also survived by a sister, Beth Reese Wertz (Ron) and a brother, Sam Reese (Sandra).

Mrs. Pooser was predeceased by her parents and brothers, Billy Reese and Johnny Reese.
