John Alvin Moore

John Alvin Moore, 82, died on Sunday, January 22, 2012. Born on February 4, 1929, in Canton, Pennsylvania, John became a chemical specialist at Hardwick Chemical Co. where he worked until retirement. John was also a member of the Royal Pines Holiness Church.

Survivors of Mr. Moore include his daughter, Celia Bowen of Chapin; daughter, Bonita (John) Cheeks of Morristown, TN; son, Von (Cindy) Bowen of Elgin; daughter, Vertie (John) Harris of Elgin; daughter, Vivian (Robert) Crowder of Columbia; brothers, Charles (Judy) Moore of Lancaster, CA and Clair Moore of PA; godson, Joshua Casey House; along with five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Bowen Moore and son, Timothy Moore.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Heartland of Columbia for taking great care of Mr. Moore while he was in their care.

A graveside service for Mr. Moore will be held at 1 o’clock, Thursday, January 26, 2012 at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Rd, Columbia, officiated by Pastor Richard Setlock. The family will receive friends following the service. Shives Funeral Home is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.
