

Born March 5, 1926 in Spring Hope, North Carolina she was the daughter of the late Ella Barbee and Berry Francis Joyner.
She attended Spring Hope public schools and graduated from Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1947. From 1949 to 1959, she taught English and Spanish at Dreher High School in Columbia. In 1954, she was awarded a yearlong Ford Foundation Fellowship to study in Mexico, Cuba and Guatemala, spending the majority of the year teaching English at the University of Mexico in Mexico City. In 1971, she received her Master’s Degree in Spanish from the University of South Carolina. She taught Spanish at James H. Hammond Academy from 1971 through 1973.
She was predeceased by her husband, Claude Edward Creason, Jr.
She is survived by her son, C. Edward Creason, III (Renee); three grandchildren, Alexandra Creason McElroy (John), Margaret Alston Creason, Edward Harrison Creason (Anna Brigid) and a great granddaughter, Margaret Capers McElroy.
She was an active member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Columbia, and enjoyed attending the Shepherd's Center at Trenholm Road Methodist as well. She was a member of several teacher's organizations including the Spanish Heritage Society, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Partners of the Americas.
Josephine was the youngest of eight children, her four brothers all serving overseas in WW II. She loved to travel and in her later years enjoyed many trips and cruises with her friends and siblings. She loved a good game of bridge. Her most cherished times by far were spent with her grandchildren, especially when they ate supper and spent the night at her house. She was a steadfast and loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to all who knew her.

A private graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery, Columbia, SC.
