Mrs. Margaret M. Carroll

Mrs. Margaret M. Carroll, 90, died Thursday, June 24th, 2010, at Palmetto Baptist Hospital of Columbia, S.C. Margaret was born May 29th, 1920, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the eldest daughter of the late Arnold and Lucy Mastrony. She graduated from Stratford High School and was a retired purchasing agent. Margaret was a jazz singer, a member of Eastern Star, and enjoyed reading and travelling. An avid quilter, she was featured in The State newspaper and won awards at the South Carolina State Fair. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Columbia. A very caring and giving person, Margaret was always helping family, friends, and neighbors.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent A. Carroll, after more than 60 years of marriage. Margaret is survived by two daughters, Christine Margaret Carroll of Columbia, and Bebe and her husband Victor Gallo of Milford, Connecticut; two sisters, Gloria and her husband William Robertson of Milford, Connecticut, and Grace Lengyel of Milford, Connecticut; three grandchildren, Stephen V. Hill of Atlanta, GA, Sheryl M. Reed of Lexington, SC, and Jennifer H. Hill of Lexington, SC; two great granddaughters, Samantha Nicole Reed and Sophie Margaret Curran, both of Lexington, SC; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, Amber. Margaret was predeceased by her sister, Vivian Mooneyhan.

The Celebration of Life funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 30th, 2010, at Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church in Columbia. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 29th, 2010, at Greenlawn Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society or the South Carolina Philharmonic. The family has entrusted Greenlawn Funeral Home with the arrangements.
