

Margaret Francis Garick Workman, Our Nanner, 96, of Columbia, died Wednesday, April 18, 2012. Born in Norway, SC on October 12, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Lemuel and Elizabeth Johnson Garick. Margaret was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who was known for her cooking, gardening and service to others. She was a member of North Trenholm Baptist Church.
Survivors include granddaughters, Sheryl Whitlock and husband, Ben, of Columbia, Debra Hill and husband, Terry, of Blythewood, and Stacy Sommerville and husband, Todd, of Columbia; great grandchildren, Ben, Nick, and Abby Formyduval, Kelly, Austin and Amanda Hill, Justin and Emily Bleckler; and son-in-law, Delbert E. Baltus. In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene B. “E.B.” Workman; daughter, Margaret Jean Baltus; and sister, Vera Gillespie.
A graveside service for Mrs. Workman will be held 3 o’clock, Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Greenlawn Memorial Park, with The Rev. R. Joseph Copeland officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o’clock, Friday evening at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia.
The family wishes to say a word of appreciation for the wonderful care given to Margaret by the staff of Magnolia Manor and her roommate Marie Robinson.
