Margie Dabbs

CHAPIN – Margie McLendon Dabbs, 88, wife of the late James A. Dabbs of Chapin, SC, was born in Columbia, SC on July 13, 1925 and passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2013. Margie was the daughter of the late Louise Hewitt McLendon and Jesse Dennis McLendon.

Margie was the first female hired by the Columbia Police Department in 1942, where she worked for many years. Margie also worked and retired from SCETV after which she volunteered for 25 years at the Baptist Hospital and Prime Times. She was also an avid gardener.

She is survived by a son, James Dennis Dabbs and wife, Donna; granddaughter, Elizabeth Krasnow and husband, Daniel of Colorado and step-grandson, R. Allen Beverly, Jr. and wife, Jennifer of Conway, SC.

Funeral services will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20 2013. Visitation will be held after the service in the church fellowship hall. A private entombment will follow at Elmwood Mausoleum. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
