Mary Currens Dunlap

A funeral service for Mary Ethel Currens Dunlap, 81, of Columbia, will be held at 11 o’clock Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Crescent Hill Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church, beginning one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Crescent Hill Baptist Church, 2659 Two Notch Road, Columbia, SC 29204. Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel is in charge.

Mrs. Dunlap, widow of the late Rev. Dr. Edward Miller Dunlap, Sr., died Friday, October 14, 2011. Born in Versailles, Kentucky she was a daughter of the late Guy Currens and Ethel Crowder Currens. Serving as a Licensed Registered Nurse in Indiana, Kentucky and South Carolina, she worked with The Indiana State Hospital, Kentucky Baptist Hospital in Louisville, KY, Toumey Hospital in Sumter, SC, Baptist Hospital in Columbia and Colleton Regional Memorial Hospital in Walterboro, SC. She was a member of the Kentucky Baptist Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association and was a member of Crescent Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her sons, Edward M. (Deborah Rushen) Dunlap, Jr. of Cramerton, NC, Bruce A. (Regina W.) Dunlap of West Columbia, David W. (Kimberly A.) Dunlap of Columbia; sister, Doris Marie Currens Hodgetts of Germantown, TN; grandchildren, Emily D. Bridwell of Duluth, GA, Aaron D. (Jessica) Dunlap of Columbia, Michael W. Dunlap of Columbia; sisters-in-laws, Gloria D. Truluck of Columbia, Joyce O. Currens of Versailles, KY and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers.
