COLUMBIA – Michael Odell Baston, 67, of Columbia, SC, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2017. He was a son of the late Odell H. Baston and Lucille McKinney Baston-Johnson.
Mike served in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Constellation. He was a Vietnam War veteran. Mike was an avid golfer and member of Fort Jackson Golf Club. He played and umpired men’s slow pitch softball for many years. His nickname was “Animal”. Mike also umpired women’s softball at high school and college levels. He was a big USC fan.
Mike is survived by his wife of 41 years, Ann C. Baston; mother, Loretta Baston Mack; sisters, Debra Baston Seay (Randy) and Adrian Baston Mack (Edward); brothers, Robert R. Hair (Susan) and David P. Hair; brothers-in-law, Robert “Buddy” Catoe (Sandra), Tim Catoe (Paula), Joel Catoe and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services, with military honors, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Elmwood Cemetery and Gardens with the Rev. Gregory C. Slater officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.
