
IRMO – Myrtice Eugenia Redmond Reeves, 102, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2013. She was born in Stewart County, Georgia on October 24, 1911. She was the daughter of the late John F. Redmond, Sr. and the late Bela Usher Redmond. Ms. Reeves was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Ira Ellis Reeves, Sr.; brothers, George Redmond and John F. Redmond, Jr.; sisters, America Redmond Land and Bela Wyl Redmond; nephews, Billy Redmond and Tommy Redmond and daughter-in-law, Eleanor Rochelle Reynolds Reeves.
Ms. Reeves is survived by her son, Ira Ellis Reeves, Jr.; grandchildren, Susan Dell Reeves Watkins (Stanley Mark Watkins), Doris Loraine Reeves de Rivas (Angel Manrique Rivas) and Ira Ellis Reeves, III; eight great-grandchildren, Johnathan Mark Watkins, Christopher Louis Watkins, Kenneth Steven Watkins, Eliana Maria Rivas, Ira Ellis Reeves IV, Anna Kaitlynn Reeves, Sara Beth Reeves and Addison Faith Reeves; nieces, Carolyn Redmond Heitter and Joyce Redmond Manning and several great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
Ms. Reeves was a long time member of First Baptist Church in Jonesboro, Georgia. After moving to Columbia, SC in 1991 to be closer to her family, she became a member of Park Street Baptist Church. She was an accomplished, self-taught artist. Painting was her true passion in life. She shared her love of painting by teaching art to others in her home. Her proudest moment as an artist was when she was commissioned by Joe Frank Harris (then Governor of Georgia) to paint the place settings of china used in the Governor’s Mansion.
She was admired and loved by her family and she will be greatly missed. Blessed with a full life on earth, she is now with her Creator and loved ones that passed before her.
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 9, 2013 from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel. A graveside service led by Dr. Timothy Phillips will be held at 4:00 p.m. at Bush River Memorial Gardens immediately following the visitation.
