Peggy Marie Haynes, widow of Thomas A. Haynes, peacefully passed from her earthly home on August 10, 2011. Born June 7, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence Moore and Carrie Slice Moore. Mrs. Haynes loved her Lord, her church and her family. She was a long time member of North Trenholm Baptist Church. One of her greatest joys was cooking wonderful meals for her family and friends. Second helpings were always mandatory. She delighted in having the friends of her children and grandchildren make her abode their second home. The family grew up with pet goats, a monkey and pigeons. She dearly loved her tiny dog, Tito and her cat, Mary.
Mrs. Haynes reveled in the great out of doors, nurturing her flowers and vegetables, which she called “digging in the dirt”. She taught her children to fish with a cane pole and fried their catch in cornbread batter. She loved to visit the South Carolina coast and had a special spot at Windy Hill Beach where she enjoyed feeding the seagulls. Peggy liked to play bingo and Christmas was her favorite time of the year. She enjoyed frying chicken and going on picnics.
Earlier in her life she was employed as a bookkeeper, but most enjoyed raising her family and enjoying the quiet life of a homemaker.
A funeral service will be held at 12 o’clock Saturday, August 13 at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia with The Rev. James Goudelock officiating.
