

COLUMBIA - Roberta G. Simpson departed this life on November 25, 2013 at her home in Columbia, SC with her family by her side.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Calvary Baptist Church, 500 S. Kilbourne Road, Columbia, SC. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. The burial will follow the church service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 7100 Garners Ferry Rd. Columbia, SC.
Roberta was born in Monroe, NC on March 10, 1925, to Benjamin and Flonnie Gill. She was one of six children, R.J., Rebecca, Dolly, Linda Jean, and her twin brother, Robert. Roberta is survived by her husband, Elbert P. Simpson; her children, James, Wayne, and Diane, six grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren in addition to a host of other loving relatives and friends – all of whom will miss Roberta greatly.
Roberta and Elbert traveled the world together for over 71 years. She was a long time member of Calvary Baptist Church. Roberta was an active members of the Columbia Twirlers and was inducted into the National Square Dancer’s Hall of Fame. In addition to working in her home, Roberta worked at the SC DHEC until retirement.
