She was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on December 21, 1955, to the late Fred W. and Edith R. Meyers. She graduated from Lander College in Greenwood, South Carolina, in 1978 with a degree in Business Administration. In addition to Columbia, she lived for a time in Marietta, Georgia.
Terry will be remembered for her personal warmth and for being a tireless caregiver and fierce advocate for those close to her, especially her mother in her final years.
She enjoyed playing tennis and delighted in her weekly mahjong, bridge, and other card games with friends. She also found meaning, pleasure, and beauty in the world around her. She was a dedicated gardener and treasured the time she spent sitting peacefully on her back patio, watching what she lovingly called “my birds.” In her last years, she handled a long illness with grace and courage.
In addition to her parents, Terry was preceded in death by her brother, Roger Meyers. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Steve McClam of Columbia, her sister, Karen Meyers of Columbia, her sister-in-law, Jacquie Meyers of San Francisco, three nieces, Lauren, Katie, and Kasey Meyers, and two stepsons, Erin and Drew McClam. All will miss her dearly.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel, 4219 Hard Scrabble Road, Columbia, South Carolina, 29223. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society at donate.cancer.org.
The family wishes to thank Stephanie Miller of Amedisys Hospice for her compassionate care and dedication to Terry.
