SFC (Ret.) Albert W. Edwards

A chapel service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, December 7, 2012 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA, with Chaplain Mark Burnett officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

SFC (Ret.) Edwards was born August 23, 1919 in Choudrant, LA, son of the late Jesse Steven and Bertie Lapearl Smith Edwards. He retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of honorable service and was an Airborne Instructor for 13 years. SFC (Ret.) Edwards was a veteran of World War II and Korea. After retiring from the Army he worked and retired as a Construction Foreman. SFC (Ret.) Edwards also loved to fish, work in his garden and watch LSU football. We will miss his presence daily but his memory will live forever in our hearts.

In addition to his parents SFC (Ret.) Edwards was preceded in death by his first wife, Marvene Edwards and second wife, Mozelle Freeman Lesley; two sons, Ricky Edwards, and Steve Edwards; four siblings, Falcon Edwards, Ruth Upchurch, Ocile Hammons, and Jewel Bryan.

Survivors include his children, Rhonda Edwards Bone of Hamilton, GA, Karla and Allen Fuller of Columbus, GA, Cindy and Rick Alexander of Columbus, GA and Mike and Lynda Lesley of Brentwood, TN; his grandchildren, Stephen and Nicole Bone, Krystal Hostilo, Kyle and Sarah Fuller, Kelsey Fuller, Robin and Brian Grier, Jay and Kellie Alexander, Courtney Lesley, Matt Lesley; his great grandchildren, Lexi McCarty, Cayden Bone, Skyleigh Fuller, Rachel Grier, Riley Grier, Holland Alexander, and Julia Alexander; two sisters, Kathleen Bennett and Cloy Stevenson; brother-in-law Ted Freeman.
