Columbus, Georgia- SFC (Ret.) Allen Ray Curry, 75 of Columbus, Georgia died Friday, April 25, 2014 at his home.
A celebration of life funeral service for Mr. Curry will be at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, April 29, 2014 in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby. Visitation will be Monday, April 28, 2014 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the funeral home with family and friends.
Allen Ray Curry was born on August 10, 1938 to the late Ellen L. and Edward E. Curry. He retired from the US Army where he served his country during the Vietnam War serving two tours of duty. After retirement Mr. Curry obtained his four year degree from Columbus State and went on to Troy State where he earned his Bachelor's degree in physiology. He was a pioneer in the field of substance of abuse, helping start the US Army prevention substance abuse program. Allen Ray Curry was also preceded in death by his wife Jo Ann Curry; grandson, Anthony David Sullivan; brothers, Gale Curry and Eddie Curry; sister, Lela Keller. He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend, a very lovable person. Allen Ray Curry will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
Survivors include his sisters, Dorla (Robert) Hoffman, Sue Bryant and Jane Hathaway; brother, Leonard "Buddy" Curry all of Wichita, Kansas; children, Michael A. (Judy) Guenther, Sandra A. (David) Sullivan, and Diane Miller; grandchildren, Melissa, Jeremy, Wendy, Rachel, Aaron, Amber Guenther, Heather Carter, Brian (Gwen) Miller, Melissa Miller; numerous great-grandchildren; nephew Denny Curry; numerous other nieces and nephews and Mr. Curry's best, loyal canine companion Dixie.
