A graveside service to celebrate Mrs. Irvin’s life will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 4, 2021 in Parkhill Cemetery with Reverend Daryl Brown officiating. The family will greet friends following the service at the graveside.
Ann was born November 28, 1924 in Dublin, Ga., the third child in a Methodist minister’s family. She graduated from Columbus High School and then continued her education at LaGrange College, where she earned a Home Economics degree. She used that degree working as Cafeteria Manager at both Daniel and Arnold Jr. High Schools.
Always generous and gracious, she would send visitors home with a goody bag of homemade cookies, sourdough bread or something special that she had made. She was known for her homemade sourdough bread, cinnamon raisin bread and especially her cheese straws. Friends were never surprised to find a loaf of freshly baked bread hanging on their doorknobs thanks to Ann.
Ann shared a catering business with two friends for many years and was known as a great cook. A friend enjoyed Ann’s cooking so much she said, “You haven’t eaten until you have put your feet under Ann Irvin’s table.”
Ann was a sweet and giving person who would share anything she had and was always thinking of others before herself. She volunteered at the Brown Bag food pantry for many years, earning a special award for her service. She also made over 1,000 cloth bags for the shoppers at Brown Bag for their groceries. She volunteered in many other ways as her children were growing up through PTA and was a Cub Scout leader.
She enjoyed having family around and hosted holiday/ birthday meals year-round. She loved her children and grandchildren and welcomed them into her home any time they showed up. You always knew you were welcome. As a devoted Christian, she served at Rose Hill United Methodist faithfully and rarely missed a Sunday.
In her later years as her memory faded, she would still look for her late husband George and wonder when he would return to her. She was loved by many, especially her family. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be greatly missed and always loved.
“Well done, good and faithful servant…” Her race is done, and she ran it to the fullest. She passed away peacefully with her children by her side. She loved her family well and served others without question or hesitation. This is the legacy she leaves for us.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Irvin was preceded in death by her husband, George T. Irvin, Sr., a son, Charles R. Irvin, a granddaughter, Jennifer Carmack, and three sisters, Emolyn Mount, Martha Thorne and Libby Certain.
Survivors include three children Pam Gilstrap and her husband, Bob, Linda Carmack and her husband, Ranny, and George T. Irvin, Jr., and his wife, Cindy; six grandchildren, Robyn Sugiura (Ken), Christopher Gilstrap (Constance), Kari Goodwin (Josh), Kaysen Carmack (Gus), Gabriel Irvin (Brittany), and Jarrod Irvin (Sara Katherine); thirteen great grandchildren, Emi, Mika, Kai, Abigail, Jacob, Orion (Haley), Amelia, Sylus, Gabriel, Mason, Cain, Anna, and Jaxon; one sister, Sue Harris, and one brother, Granville Rainey (Judy); Numerous nieces and nephews.
