Barbara Jean Ellis, age 75, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2025. Barbara was born in Columbus, Georgia to the late Sarah Eubanks Moore and Roland Marshall Moore. She was a lifelong resident of Columbus, Georgia where she found her passion serving her community through the school district as a paraprofessional. Barbara worked for 27 years at Wesley Heights Elementary School. She found great joy in helping the children under her care learn and grow. Barbara was Christian by faith and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church of Columbus. She was an avid reader; she loved her cats and she also enjoyed watching movies. Most of all Barbara loved her family dearly, she will be greatly missed by all who knew and especially loved her.
She leaves her loving memory to be cherished by her son, Mark Ellis and his wife Melanie; her grandchildren: Joseph Finley, Keri Finley, and Daniel Ellis; her niece Jennifer Moore Cantero and her children: Stephanie and Ariel; her nephew, Gerald Noel Moore; and her longtime friend and father to Mark, Jim Ellis. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Sarah Eubanks Moore and Roland Marshall Moore; and her brother, Gerald Marshall Moore.
A visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, May 9, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the St. Elmo Room at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907. A celebration of Barbara's life will occur Saturday, May 10, 2025 at 11:00 AM in Fisher Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. Barbara will be laid to rest in Parkhill Cemetery.
