On August 31, 2022, Bette Delores Coley, beloved mother, and Nana, passed away at Piedmont Midtown Hospital following a brief illness. She was eighty-one years old. Born to Leonard J. Jones and Wilma V. Lockhart and preceded in death by her brother, SMSgt. (retired) James A. Jones and Bobby G. Jones (Yvonne) of Manchester, GA.
Bette was a homemaker for 17 years. She then worked in the office furniture business, where she became an office designer, tasked with setting up offices for local businesses. Later, she became the office manager for Service Casket Company, she retired in 2009.
Bette was best known for her quick-witted humor, fierce determination, and generous spirit. She had the gift of hospitality and often pulled out the grill for neighborhood BBQs. She was a huge Alabama Crimson Tide fan, loved the beach and loved animals, especially dogs. Her greatest love was family and her “GG babies” also known as her great grandchildren. She enjoyed her numerous building projects and there was nothing she could not fix or build and was always ready to help anyone in need.
She is survived by her daughters Mechelle Alexander of Columbus, GA, and husband Keith; Janine and Dr. Johnny Christian of Waynesboro, GA; grandchildren Wendy and her husband Dr. Tanner Eiden of Orlando, FL; Abby and her husband Aaron Wall of Columbus, GA; Dr. Logan and his wife Tilly Christian of Vidalia, GA; Lane Christian of Statesboro, GA; and 8 great grandchildren.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, September 24th at 3 p.m. at Striffler-Hamby Funeral Home with visitation at 2 p.m. In lieu of giving flowers the family asks that those who are able instead give donations directed to the ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) or to your local animal shelter.
