
Billy Frank Cato, Sr., age 83, resident of Columbus, passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Gentiva Hospice. Funeral services are scheduled at Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, Columbus on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, 3 p.m. with Reverend Billy Duncan officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 from 5-7 p.m.
Mr. Cato, son of the late James John Cato and Bobbie Lee Sanders Cato, was born December 5, 1933 in Marion County, Georgia. He was retired from Tom Huston’s where he retired with more than 10 years of service. Mr. Cato was the owner of Cato’s Corner (The Store), was a coach at North Columbus Babe Ruth Baseball (13 years old division), drove cars for retail car dealerships; and enjoyed spending time gardening and fishing. He was a longtime member of Beallwood Baptist Church and member of the Mount Hermon Masonic Lodge #304, Columbus.
Mr. Cato was preceded in death by three brothers; two sisters; two grandsons; and one great-grandson. He is survived by his wife, Ann Cato of Columbus; four sons, Mike Dehner and his wife Patricia of Columbus, James Cato of Columbus, Billy Cato, Jr. of Cataula, Georgia, and David Cato of Columbus; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
