Billy Joe Strickland, 71, of Columbus, Georgia, entered his heavenly home on March 4, 2024. A Visitation will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907 on Friday, March 8, 2024 at 1:00 pm, directly followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00 pm, concluding with a committal service at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907. Services will be officiated by Rev. Don Wilhite.
Billy Strickland was born on September 12, 1952 to the late Janice Elizabeth Colbert and James Strickland. After graduating Jordan Vocational High School in 1970, he began his journey to become a Master Electrician. He married the love of his life, Shirley Strickland, and they remained faithfully dedicated to each other for 43 years. They were devoted to their faith and attended Second Baptist Church on Second Avenue together. In Billy’s free time, he loved to work on old cars, go fishing, watched Braves Baseball and Sci-fi movies. He never missed an episode of Law and Order. Billy loved to spend time with his wife and family. Billy will be forever loved and deeply missed by those who knew him.
Billy is preceded in death by his parents, Janice Elizabeth Colbert and James Strickland; and brothers, David Strickland and Timothy Strickland. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Shirley G. Strickland of Columbus, GA; daughter, Lisa Lyda of Columbus, GA; sons, David (Emi) Tharp of Nashville, TN, and Wayne (Lisa) Smith of Columbus, GA, and his grandchildren, Zachary Lyda, Elizabeth Lyda, Dillon Smith, and Garrett Tharp.
