Catherine Gunn of Columbus, Georgia passed away October 18, 2018, at the age of 95. She was at home surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at 3:00 p.m. at Striffler-Hamby with Reverend Hank Reeves officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Gunn was born May 6, 1923, in Columbus, Georgia, the daughter of Earnest and Dovie Dominick. She is a graduate of Jordan High School. She married the late Bryant Gunn June, 1980, and they shared many wonderful years. Mrs. Gunn retired from the Columbus Ledger Enquirer with more than thirty years of service. After retirement as many as seven volunteer jobs at a time kept her busy. Volunteer work was near and dear to her heart. One of her proudest accomplishments was being a charter member of Glenn Anthony Baptist Church. Catherine loved traveling and spending time with her family and numerous friends. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother.
Mrs. Gunn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, James “Butch” Sloan; one sister, Gladys Deaton; two brothers, Tom and James Smith. Survivors include two children, Tommie Jean Miel (Steven) and Linda S. Hines (Andy); one daughter-in-law, Anita Sloan; seven grandchildren, Kim Jordan (Brooks), Angie Chapman (Bruce), Leigh Adams (David), Jason Hines (Ashley), Laura O’Neill (Mike), Jeff Miel (Rachel), and David Sloan (Cathy); eighteen great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
