Chuck was born on September 1, 1954, in Birmingham, Alabama. He was educated in the Jefferson County School System until his family relocated to St. Clair County in 1966. He graduated from St. Clair County High School in 1972.
Following high school, Chuck studied broadcasting at Jefferson State Junior College from 1972 to 1973. He began his broadcasting career at WVOK Radio 690, where he worked until 1975. He then moved to WRFS in Alexander City before relocating in 1977 to Enterprise, Alabama, to work at WKMX Radio. It was there that he met his future wife, Carole Ann Nichols.
Chuck and Carole were married on March 10, 1979, at Fort Rucker. They spent the next two years in Enterprise before moving to Columbus, Georgia, in 1981. That year, Chuck began his long and respected career as a news anchor at WTVM, where he became a trusted voice and familiar presence in the community.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford Leonard Mashburn and Merry Charles Mashburn; his sister, Sue Washington; his father-in-law, Lieutenant Colonel James H. Nichols; and his sister-in-law, Cheryl Elizabeth Nichols.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Carole Nichols Mashburn; his daughter, Ann Elizabeth Mashburn (Blaine Hagerty) of Savannah, Georgia; his son, Charles Michael Mashburn of Columbus, Georgia; his mother-in-law, Ann Turner Nichols of Elba, Alabama; his sister, Jan (Nicke) Gaspers; his brother, Earnie (Teena) Mashburn; his brother-in-law, George Washington; and many nieces and nephews and a wide circle of longtime friends.
For decades, Chuck was a trusted voice in the Chattahoochee Valley, and his legacy lives on in the stories he told and the lives he touched.
