

Charles William Sanger CW3 (Ret.), age 77, passed away on August 4, 2011. Memorial services will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd., Columbus, GA on Friday, August 12, 2011 at 10:00 AM. Entombment will be follow at Main Post Cemetery, Ft. Benning.
Mr. Sanger was born on August 31, 1933 in Brighton, CO to the late Charles Sanger and Mildred Johnson Sanger. At the age of eight, he witnessed the Japanese attack of Pearl Harbor, HI. He served proudly in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, the Vietnam War and also in Japan and Germany. Mr. Sanger retired after 21 years of service at the rank of CW3. He was best known for his stories, always catching the attention of those who listened. One incident with an Upson County, GA Sheriff's Deputy got him the title "Zeke's Angel" where he helped in saving the Deputy's life. He was preceded in death by a sister, Beverley Wallace and a brother, John Sanger.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 58 years, Ann Sanger of Columbus; three daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Larry McNeill of Atlanta, GA, Nancy and Bruce Butler of Seale, AL and Tracy & Benito Flores-Meath of College Station, TX; three granddaughters, Michele and Willie Wells of Houston, TX, Rachel Flores-Meath of College Station, TX and Valerie Flores-Meath of College Station, TX; a sister, Shirley Pasanen of Woodland, CA and many nieces.Please visit www.shcolumbus.com to express condolences.
