Charles, son of the late Charles and Stella Suchocki was born March 30, 1931 in Philadelphia, PA.
At the age of 18, Charles Shayne enlisted in the Army. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Platoon Sargent and veteran of the Vietnam War. As part of his service, Charles was in the 11th Airborne Division with a total of 132 jumps during his career. For his service, he was awarded National Defense Service Medal, Master Parachutist Badge, Vietnam Service Medal Bronze Star along with other commendations.
After his military career, he worked at Kinnett Dairy driving to local farms to pick up milk. Civil Service as a driver at the motor pool at Ft. Benning. His last job was working at Red Oak Golf Club which he enjoyed since he was able to play golf afterwards.
He loved visiting with his grand dogs and spoiling them with treats.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Brunhilde Shayne, oldest son, Charles E Shayne, brother Carl Suckocki, sister Lonnie Nicholson and granddaughter Christine Yasuk.
Charles Shayne is survived by three sons, Robert Shayne (Linda) of Stuart, FL, Carl Shayne (Gloria) of Midland, GA, Michael Shayne (Stephanie) of Hampden, ME; two daughters, Ellen Yasuk (Walter) of Bridgeville, DE, Barbara Beck (John) of Cape Coral, FL; One sister, Joan Gallagher (Anthony) of Pawleys Island, SC; One step daughter, Barbara Boehm (Hans) of Augsburg, Germany; and numerous grand and great grandchildren. His companion Sandy Frazier of Cusseta, GA.
A visitation for family and friends for Charles will be held Wednesday, June 21st, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Edgewood Hall at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907. A private graveside service with military honors will be held on Thursday, June 22nd, 2023 at Main Post Fort Moore National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to Gary Sinise Foundation for veterans in Charles name would be appreciated.
