Charles E. Washington, Sr., age 89, resident of Columbus, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2018 at Kindred Hospice. Funeral services are scheduled at Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, Columbus on Thursday, April 26, 2018, 2 p.m. with Reverend Ed Kvietkus and Reverend Mike Randall officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 from 5-7 p.m.
Mr. Washington, son of the late Paul McElroy Washington and Minnie Miller Washington, was born January 28, 1929 in Ware Shoals, South Carolina. He was retired from Swift Denim where he faithfully worked for many years. Mr. Washington graduated from Clemson University in 1956; enjoyed playing golf; and was an avid Clemson Tigers fan. He loved Christ, his family, and serving others. Mr. Washington was also a man with a sense of humor and loved people.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Washington and a brother, Marion Washington. Mr. Washington is survived by his wife Betty Washington; one daughter, Holly Carver and her husband Carroll; two sons, Ed Washington and his wife Mickie and David Washington; three granddaughters, Chandler Simpson and her husband Davis, Leah Carver, and Shea Washington.
