

Charles Frank West May 15, 1919- July 2, 2015 Columbus, GA- The Funeral Service will be held at 2pm on Saturday July 11th in the Chapel of the Pines at Parkhill with Reverend Robert Beckum officiating. Visitation will follow. Frank was the son of Charles and Mattie West of Temple, GA. He grew up on the family farm with brothers, J.B. and Ivey, and a sister, Clarice. After graduating from West Georgia College, Frank worked as a teacher and principal in Carroll County schools until World War II. Joining the Army Air Force, Frank served as flight engineer and Sergeant with the 397th Squadron in the Panama Canal Zone and the Pacific. In 1945 Frank began a career with Life of Georgia Insurance Company that spanned 35 years. In 1947 Frank married the former Winnifred Kirksey of Reynolds, GA. The couple was happily married for 61 years until Winnie's death in 2008. Frank and Winnie had many cherished, lifelong friends both in Columbus and Atlanta. Frank was a charter member of Sherwood Methodist. After moving to Atlanta, Frank and Winnie joined Peachtree Road Methodist Church. Upon retiring and returning to Columbus, the couple worshiped at St. Luke Methodist and joined the Friendship Class. Frank was an active volunteer through such venues as "Meals on Wheels." In retirement Frank enjoyed building a Lake Harding cabin that was generously shared with others. He and Winnie journeyed with friends by RV to 43 states. Frank enjoyed deep sea fishing charters and his Atlanta Braves. Frank West's survivors include three generations of numerous nephews and nieces.
