

(CPT Ret) Prentis Douglas Wilson Sr., age 75, of Columbus, Georgia passed away at St. Francis Hospital on Wednesday February 14, 2018. (CPT Ret) Wilson was born July 18, 1942 in Clanton, Alabama to his late parents, Lurlie Thomas Wilson and Hubert Wilson. He was Baptist by faith and served his country proudly for over 35 years, including Korea and two campaigns in Vietnam, where he was with the famous Charlie Company during 1965-66. CPT Wilson earned numerous medals and ribbons, some of which were: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (two Campaigns), Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Bronze Star Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Commendation Medal (3 Oak Leaf Clusters), Meritorious Service Medal (two Oak Leaf Clusters), Humanitarian Service Medal, and four Overseas Service Ribbons. CPT Ret Wilson loved his brothers in Arms and will be missed at the Charlie Company reunions, and by his family who he dearly loved, as they loved him.
Along with his parents, Prentis was preceded in death by: his sister Elrie Conway, and brother-in-law Jerome Conway, and his sister Dean Holley. He is survived by his loving wife, Waltraud T Wilson; son Prentis Wilson, Jr., and daughter-in-law Miriam Park; daughter Karen Grant; daughter Marina Howard, and son-in-law Don Howard; son-in-law Jerry Grant, Sr.; sister Ruth Ratliff, and brother-in-law Jerry Ratliff, brother Franklin Wilson, and sister-in-law Edith Wilson; brother-in-law Jimmy Holley; grandchild Jerry Grant, Jr.; grandchild Joshua Wilson and grandchild Alex Wilson; nieces, nephews, other family members, and many, many friends.
A Celebration of (CPT Ret) Wilson’s Life will be Monday, February 19, 2018 at 12:00 pm In The Mill Room of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd., Columbus, GA. An interment for (CPT Ret) Wilson in Arlington National Cemetery will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in Memory of (CPT Ret) Prentis Douglas Wilson, Sr. to the American Heart Association. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.shcolumbus.com for the Wilson family.
