In spite of difficult circumstances, Dan graduated with many accolades from John Harris High School in Harrisburg, PA in 1965.
On September 19, 1970, Dan married the love of his life, Eileen. They built a beautiful life together filled with love and partnership. After over five decades together, their story will continue through Eileen’s undying love and commitment to him.
Allison was born to Dan and Eileen on July 16, 1972 and quickly became a daddy’s girl. In Allison’s eyes, her daddy was as good as they come and she’ll always cherish his unwavering support of her and her dreams and his belief that she could accomplish anything she set her mind to do.
As a life-long advocate for the rights of all people, Dan proudly attended Dr. Martin Luther King’s historic March on Washington with his sister, Susan, to support the Civil Rights Movement.
Without the opportunity to attend college, Dan began his working career from a humble start by applying for a custodial job at the Bell Telephone company in Harrisburg, PA. He was soon selected to take a technical aptitude test which he passed with flying colors and so began a career of hard work, determination and great leadership in Insurance Information Systems. His last formal position was as CIO and Senior Vice President at Aflac in Columbus, GA from 1985-1993. Throughout his career, he was a friend and mentor to many of his colleagues who respected his ability and admired his integrity.
He retired at an early age in search of a quieter life and a return to his humble roots. He and Eileen enjoyed traveling across the country visiting many of the National Parks sometimes along with their favorite travel companions, Donna and Forrest.
He worked tirelessly to provide a wonderful life for his family, including raising Eileen’s teenage brother, Mike Bingaman, after his mother passed away. He will always be a hero to Eileen and Allison for his unwavering love and guidance.
Of all his accomplishments, his proudest role was that of Papa to his dear granddaughter, Sarah. His face would light up every time she was with him and he held great joy in spending time with her.
