Dolores Black Pennington, age 96, resident of Nashville, GA passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2023. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the Masonic Mausoleum in Parkhill Cemetery, Columbus, GA. Active Pallbearers will be Rudy Hancock, Ryan Hancock, Drew Hancock, Ryan Swofford, Tyler Smith, and Ted Theus. The service will be officiated by Senior Adult Pastor Vern Jordin.
Dolores, is the daughter of the late James Thomas Black and Elizabeth Melinda Black. Dolores was born January 9, 1927 in Sarasota, FL. Dolores had one sister and two brothers. She graduated from Jordan High School and worked at Kirven’s in the Accounting Department for a few years before becoming a full time homemaker. Dolores is a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star Lodge #278, Ft. Benning Chapter. She enjoyed being an active member of Beallwood Baptist Church. She is best described as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Besides her husband, Ernest William Pennington “Penny”; she is preceded in death by a son, James Thomas Pennington; and all her siblings.
Dolores is survived by: one daughter, Cheryl P. Hancock and her husband Rudy; grandchildren, Ryan Heath Hancock, Sherri Necoal Smith, and her husband Terry; Kristopher Drew Hancock, Mitzi Anic Hancock Swofford, and her husband Ryan; great grandchildren, Jonathan Tyler Smith, Madison Elizabeth Smith, Susanna Marie Shaw, Rudy Anic Swofford, Georgia Elizabeth Swofford, and William Kristopher Swofford; daughter-in-law, Cindy Smith; and many other relatives and friends.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to her friend for life, Ella Mae Hambrick, sitter, Renee Wilcox, and to Hospice of South Georgia for their caring and compassionate care.
