SFC (Ret.) Donald Eugene McFarland

SFC (Ret.) Donald Eugene McFarland, 87, of Columbus, died on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Midtown Medical Center. A Graveside Service with full honors will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 10:00am in Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road Columbus. The family will receive friends Friday, April 28, 2017 at Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Road Columbus, from 6:00-8:00pm.

Mr. McFarland, son of the late George and Sophia McFarland, was born March 21, 1930 in Watts, Oklahoma. He was a family man; a beloved father and amazing “Opa” who loved his family and wife tremendously. Mr. McFarland served our country honorably in both the Air Force and Army. He served during the Korean Conflict as well as Vietnam War before retiring after 22 years. He then worked as a Boxer/Assembler for Leshner Mill in Phenix City, AL. Mr. McFarland was a former member of Crystal Valley Baptist Church.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Deloras Wheeler McFarland; second wife, Lieslotte Ochsle McFarland; grandsons, Steven McFarland, Gerdi Gebhardt; five brothers and sisters.

Mr. McFarland is survived by his children, Gerd Gebhardt (Leni), Ursula Reynolds, Sophia Davis, Dennis E. McFarland (Rosie), Johnny McFarland, Sandra Bailey (Bob); twenty-four grandchildren; and many great grandchildren.
