Doris Nell Ward, age 73, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Monday August 12, 2019. A visitation for family and friends for Doris will be held Friday, August 16, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, GA 31907. A Celebration of Doris' Life will occur Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 10:00 AM in The Mill Room of Striffler-Hamby.
Doris was born September 30, 1945 in Heard County, Georgia to her late parents Joyce Yarbrough Gore and Howard Gore. Like many people she came to Columbus to work in the textile industry. She began at Columbus Mills as a Weaver, due to her strong work ethics she moved to the accounting office where she remained until retiring. She was a member of Friends Unlimited and loved to take her grandchildren to fun places. By example, she taught her children to be to be good parents and how to take care of children. Doris enjoyed laughing with her grandchildren and telling storied of her youth. She kept photos of all the family and would reminisce about the good times. Doris will always be remembered as a very loving, kindhearted friend, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Other than her parents, Doris was preceded in death by; daughter Lisa Ward Burger; four brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by; son Robert Ward; grandchildren, Christopher Burger, Sara (Morgan) Sturtz, John Ward and Ivy Ward; two great grandchildren, Lola and Mela Sturtz, one sister, Lola Jean Barnett; nieces, nephews other family members and many friends.
