

Dorothy "Penny" Bonair, age 86, resident of Columbus, died on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at Columbus Hospice House. Graveside services are scheduled at Main Post Cemetery, 6551 Fort Benning Blvd, Fort Benning, GA on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at 11 a.m., according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, March 11, 2012 from 3-5 P.M.
Mrs. Bonair , daughter of the late Clark Pennington and Bonnie Louise Jones Pennington, was born on June 10, 1925 in Hialeah, FL. After graduating from high school, where she played basketball, Penny was a "Rosie the Riveter "during World War II, working as an aircraft engine assembler in Warner Robins. She then joined the U.S. Army and served in the WAC until she married Paul Julius Bonair to whom she was married for nearly 36 years until his death in 1987. Mrs. Bonair was a homemaker for most of her married life and was a devoted wife and mother., She thoroughly enjoyed flower gardening, being especially passionate about her day lilies.
Mrs. Bonair dearly loved and was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren. She is survived by one daughter, Carol Stotser and her husband Ron of Columbus, two sons, Dennis Bonair of Columbus and David Bonair and his wife Valerie of Macon, four grandchildren, Greg Stotser and his wife Anna, Raymond Stotser, USN Ensign Lauren Bonair, and Chad Bonair. Mrs. Bonair also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who were very dear to her, including Fred Martin of Cataula, and her "neighbor daughter", Susie Hipp. She was a blessing to her family and friends and felt blessed in return by them.
