

Funeral services are scheduled at the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia on Thursday, August 29, 2013, 3 p.m. with Reverend Jim Hilderbrand officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service on Thursday, August 29, 2013 from 1-3 p.m.
Mr. Tomblin was born in Columbus, Georgia on September 11, 1934. He was a 1952 graduate of Columbus High School and a 1956 graduate of the University of Georgia. Mr. Tomblin valued GOD, Country, and Family. He served in the U.S. Army Artillery for over 20 years and retired as a Major. During his distinguished military career, he served two tours in Vietnam. Mr. Tomblin was a member of the McKendree United Methodist Church and a charter member of VFW, Post #5162 of Huntsville, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his father, Edgar Collis Tomblin, his mother, Virginia O. Tomblin, and his brother, Dr. Collis Nelson Tomblin.
Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Edith B. Tomblin of Danville, Alabama; two daughters and a son-in-law, Carol Tomblin of Madison, Alabama and Vicki Tomblin Smith and her husband Ron Smith of Lacey’s Spring, Alabama; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Eric Derrill Tomblin and his wife Sherry Tomblin of Huntsville, Alabama and Jim Edward Tomblin of Danville, Alabama; a sister-in-law, Glynn Tomblin of Columbus, Georgia; four grandsons; five granddaughters; nice great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; other family members; and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in memory of Mr. Derrill Tomblin to McKendree United Methodist Church, 2795 Hwy. 55 West, Danville, Alabama 35619.
