
One of the most colorful personalities to ever grace this world has moved on to greater heavenly adventures. Edwin Edison Lee Howell departed this earth on Monday, January 13, 2025, having spent 88 years of service and generosity with us.
Mr. Howell was born in Oglethorpe, Georgia on September 2, 1936. He spent the first 20 years of his life in active military service all over the world, including Asia, Europe and South America, earning many honors, medals and awards. Some of these honors, medals and awards are: National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Devise, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, 2 Overseas Service Bars, Expert Infantryman Badge, Expert Field Medical Badge, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), 7 Service Stripes, and also was honored with a letter of appreciation from the Commanding General of the Ecuadorean Army Rifle Team.
He returned to Georgia to serve in law enforcement for 4 years before entering Civil Service, where he served another 20 years in preventative medicine in Oklahoma, Nevada and New Mexico. He spent his life helping people and made a lasting impression on everyone he touched. Although his absence will be deeply felt, his good works and memories will live forever in every soul who knew him.
Mr. Howell is survived by the love of his life, Joyce, after 67 years of marriage and his two sons, Mitchell Howell (65) and Todd Howell (60). He will be interred in the Howard United Methodist Church Cemetery, 2231 Wesley Church Rd. Butler, GA 31006, on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 2:00 pm with a short service open to all with full military honors. Well wishes may be sent to, 1 Retriever Court, Columbus, GA 31909.
