
Following a private burial, a memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 16, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Charles R. Hasty, Jr. and Dr. E. Jones Doughton officiating.
Eleanore was born in West Point, Georgia on October 13, 1925, the daughter of Clark H. and Frances Fox Watkins. At the age of 11, she moved with her family to Columbus. She graduated from Columbus High School and on November 9, 1946, married Walter J. Gunby. She was known for her compassion, generosity, good humor, love of animals and, above all, her loving devotion to her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, sister, Alice W. Rodgers, and brother, C. Hutson Watkins. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Charlotte Gunby and Steve and Nancy Gunby, Columbus, daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Sam Hall, Pine Mountain, Georgia, and grandchildren, Walt, Mills, Robert and Elizabeth Gunby.
The family would like to thank the staffs of The Green House at Calvary 1 and Columbus Hospice and special friend, Marie Reed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Columbus Hospice, Thornwell Orphanage, or the Humane Society of Harris County.
