

Graveside services will be held at Parkhill Cemetery Friday, April 10, 2026, at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
Mrs. King was born in Knoxville, TN, on January 6, 1927, the daughter of Robert M. Lindsay Sr. and Elizabeth Maynard Lindsay. She was a graduate of Maryville High School in Maryville, TN, and the University of Tennessee where she received a Degree in Home Economics in 1948.
While at UT, she served as president of the Women's Student Government Association and was named a Torchbearer, the highest senior honor the university bestows. She also received the Mortar Board award as the outstanding freshman, and served as treasurer of her sophomore class, president of the HomeEc Club, secretary of Chi Omega sorority, and advertising manager and business manager of the Volunteer yearbook.
Upon graduation, Mrs. King joined the executive training squad of Davison's Department Store in Atlanta and, when the company opened a store in Columbus, GA in 1949, she was assigned to that store as a department manager.
She later taught school in Maryville, TN, for a year before marrying Irwin B. Cohen of Columbus, June 3, 1950. She returned to Columbus where she lived the rest of her life. After Irwin’s death, she married Robert A. (Pete) King on February 6, 1963.
Mrs. King was a volunteer, officer, and generous financial supporter of many community organizations. She served as president of the St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary and subsequently served on the St. Francis Hospital board of trustees. She also served on the board of the East Tennessee Historical Society Foundation and the Columbus Town Committee of the Colonial Dames of America.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she was president of the Women of the Church, was a circle chairperson, and taught Sunday School.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. King was predeceased by her two husbands, her brother, Robert M. Lindsay Jr., and her dear friend, Cecil Darby.
She is survived by three sons, Robert Maynard Cohen, of Maryville, TN, Thomas Lindsay Cohen of Atlanta, and William Joseph Cohen of Atlanta; two grandsons, Christopher Adamson Cohen of Brooklyn, NY, and Benjamin Henry Cohen of Asheville, NC; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Cohen Powers of Atlanta and Katherine Cohen Spieker of Hendersonville, NC; and two great-grandchildren.
