

Miss Kirkland was born March 10, 1928, in Geneva County Alabama to Grover Cleveland and Cannie Elizabeth (Powell) Kirkland. She moved to Columbus after WW II. During her working career she worked at and retired from the Bibb Mill, the Postal Service, and the North Library.
Miss Kirkland was an avid reader. She was very interested in history, world affairs, and politics. She was also enjoyed gardening and was well known as an outstanding cook. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and attended the LDS temple in Atlanta regularly. Known as “Aunt Mae” to many, she was a wonderful example of generosity, kindness, and her Christian beliefs. She looked for the opportunity to help others and blessed the lives of many individuals in her community.
She devoted her life to the care of family members and loved ones. She was a “mother” to many, most especially her nieces and nephews of several generations. She is survived by one nephew, Michael Kirkland of Orlando Fla; two nieces, Deborah Gilley of Panama City Beach, Fl. and Cheryl Frandsen and her husband Alan of Ellerslie, Ga; two great nephews, Alan David Frandsen of Columbus Ga and Benjamin Frandsen of Decatur Ga, and one great niece, Lindsay Frandsen of Decatur Ga. She is also survived by one great-great nephew, Alexander Frandsen of Michigan.
Her funeral will be held on Wednesday April 26 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 3007 Howard Avenue in Columbus. Family visitation will begin at 10:00 am. The service will follow beginning at 11:00 am with burial in Parkhill Cemetery, according to Striffler-Hamby, Columbus, Ga.
