Maxine was born March 8, 1946 in Junction City, GA to the late Otis H. Barrett and Iola Thomas Barrett.
Prior to retirement, Maxine was employed by Southern Foods for many years before transitioning and closing out her career as a transportation coordinator for Columbus Carpet Mills.
Maxine loved her WHOLE family - siblings, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces/nephews, in-laws alike. Her check-ins with those she had frequent contact with always required updates on the extended family members that she had not spoken with in a while. As the Matriarch of her immediate family, she blended sage advice with loving encouragement. You didn’t have to worry where you stood - she made it clear. As long as you were “doing right” and “taking care of each other” you were in good standing. She grew up in an era and place that drew on hard times, and FAMILY was often the difference in making it or not. Her whole family mattered. As her children prospered in life, she would remind them to never judge those with less, and help those you can.
Cooking was her language of love. The holiday feasts she prepared were looked forward to by all. Her fried salmon patties were a special treat her grandchildren especially looked forward to having. Family, friends, and guests alike were all made to feel welcome at her home and breaking a little bread was her way of showing love. You never left her home hungry.
Her passing leaves a huge hole in the family, but the life lessons she imparted and wonderful moments shared will guide and comfort her posterity on their path to righteousness and fulfillment.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Clifford R. Glines; sisters, Hazel Drennen, Betty Wells, Margie Hilyer, and brothers Stoney Barrett, Marvin Barrett, and Stanley Barrett.
She is survived by her sons, Maurice Hammock (Kelly) and Bryan Hammock (Lynn); daughter Rachel Napier (Robert Young); grandchildren, Breanna, Kyndal (Rob), Whitney, Kayla (Roman), Will (Helen Catherine), Cody (Kim), Maxie (Joe), Luke (Brady), and Lexie (Lane); great grandchildren, Lyla, Annora, Miles, Sloane, Isaac, Clifford, and Jax.
Her family will be forever thankful to Sandra Fuller, Heather Irvin, Krystal Farrow, Ashley Crisp, and Christina Badea-Grayson, the caregivers from Gentiva Hospice for the months of in-home care provided as her health declined - and to Reverend Cook for your spiritual care that helped her through the mental and emotional challenges of declining health. Your faith and word helped her to prepare to meet our Lord and Savior!
